The Power of Praise

Every so often we work in environments that have the mantra "the beatings will continue until morale improves". But then there are places where you will work where you boss or co-worker comes up to you and gives you a pat on the back for a job well done.

When was the last time you told an employee (if you are manager) what a good job they do overall, not just a specific thing? If you are a co-worker, when was the last time you told someone that they help make the team great? Or have you told your staff how they make the office a better place?

If you have, good for you. And thank you for making a difference. Chances are, if you are doing this, your staff is probably pretty happy working for or with you. You may even find that the numbers of resumes flying out to other markets is a lot less over time. You may also see improved productivity, staff members working harder, they come to the table with ideas and ways to improve what you do.

It's the power of kind words that makes a difference. Who knows, you may have inadvertently inspired someone who needed those words to change their attitude about working with you. You may have changed their day.

When I am reviewing with my staff, I make sure I start with word of praise or thanks for what they contribute. It changes the whole tone of what potentially could be a not so fun conversation. I have seen it elevate a conversation.

The power of praise is real. Try it for 2 weeks and see how it works for you. I think you will find, the morale will improve dramatically.

This is the mentality I use when working with radio stations and talent. This mantra have brought great rating and dynamic personalities, which translate into improved revenue. Give me a call and let's see how we can apply the power of praise to your radio station or group.
